Dizziness is a common problem, especially among older adults. People over the age of 65, dizziness is one of the most common reasons for doctor visits or hospitalization. Physical therapists often help people to reduce their symptoms, reduce their risk of falling, and return to activities they enjoy.

There are different types of dizziness you may experience. Vertigo is the sensation of spinning that often occurs with changing of head positions. This may be a condition called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Other people feel light headed or unsteadiness. These symptoms can result in:

  • Difficulty walking
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Anxiety
  • Feeling tired
  • Decreased ability to concentrate
  • Depression
  • Increased risk of falling

At Coastal Physical Therapy & Wellness, we will perform tests to determine the cause of your dizziness and assess your risk of falling. Based on your results, we will develop a personalized treatment program to address your impairments, reduce your symptoms, improve your mobility, and return to your regular activities. If you are experiencing dizziness, vertigo, or unsteadiness, find out if physical therapy is right for you!
